About the Author

Working for the military has made me the man I am today.  Rugged, outgoing, brilliant (J/K I was born brilliant) and very worried about government control.  I mean have you seen some of the people that work for the government?  I see my mug in the mirror everyday, and I get scared.

I believe America was founded on the truth that every man women and child is born free; In the case they aren’t actually free they yearn to be free.  The only way man can remain free is for a free market to exist, coupled with a republic founded to protect the interests of the companies and through the companies, the people. For that republic to exist men must stand ready to defend it.  The thing they must defend is not the republic itself but the ideology founded by principles.  When you swear an oath to service it’s to the constitution and not to any figurehead.

I’ve spent almost a decade serving in the United States Army.  Over half of my time in the military has been working in public affairs as a journalist.  I’m not going to tell you about the other half, not that I’d have to kill you. You’d just be incredibly bored. I’m now working as a military police officer.

Army public affairs is a unique experience which allowed me to see as many sides of the military as possible.  My job as a writer is to tell the story of our men and women in uniform.  As a public affairs practitioner (as we in the public affairs world like to call ourselves) I am responsible for keeping the American people informed.  I’ve spoken to the proudest of privates and the mightiest of generals.  Seen things I’d like to forget and done just enough that I want some more.  I’ve been taxied around on Black Hawks and C-130s.  Chilled out on Coast Guard Fast Boats and Dolphins. I’ve been overseas and on the seas (and under the sea… but that was personal).

While on a six mile jog (I do my best thinking while on the run) I came up with Free Market Military.  Free Market Military is a conservative blog mainly tasked at making the US Military a better organization and to inform the American people about it.  My hope is to give a critical view of the beast from the inside covering the good and the bad.  This outlet will give me the ability to say what I’ve wanted without a black marker cutting up my words, bureaucracy and the chain of command.

In my heart I believe that the way the United States Military works is as backward as it can be. As an American I believe it could be so much more.

Thanks,
Jack Valenteen

P.S. I’ve been working on a fictional novel, be prepared!
